Natural and Nutritional Therapies for Hearing Loss

Experts have said that one in ten Americans have some type of hearing problem. Hearing loss is the third most common health problem for people over the age of 65. A recent JAMA study shows that nearly 15 percent of school aged kids have some type of hearing problem. 85 percent of hearing loss involves tinnitus, which is a ringing in the ears. The good news is that there are many natural and nutrition based remedies that can help. Here are some of ways to reduce hearing loss.

  • Make sure you get plenty of vegetable protein in your diet. Eat sprouts, whole grains, fruit, and cultured foods.
  • Try to work on losing any excess weight. Reduce dietary fats, cholesterol, and mucus-forming foods.
  • Avoid refined sugars, heavy starches, and concentrated foods with preservatives.
  • If you are brave, try eating fresh grated horseradish with a spoonful of lemon juice. Hang over the sink to release excess mucous and clear head passages. It happens very quickly!
  • Go on a three day mucous cleansing diet. Eat fresh foods including plenty of salads and fresh fruits. Drink lots of water and add lemon for extra benefit and for taste!
  • Keep your diet very low in sugars, salt, and dairy foods. Get good calcium intake from leafy greens.
  • Avoid continuous loud noise.
  • Acupressure points have been shown to be quite helpful in reducing hearing loss. Squeeze joints on the ring finger and 4th toes, covering all sides for 3 minutes every day. You can also stroke gently downward from the top of the temple to the bottom of the cheek with nails for 30 seconds on each side.
  • Chiropractic adjustments are very beneficial as a misaligned vertebra can comprise blood flow to the ears and worsen hearing.
