Walnuts are one of my favorite nuts to munch on during the day! They are rich in flavor and I love their beautiful organic shapes. Originating in Persia, Walnuts are one of the oldest tree foods. The Romans referred to them as the “Royal Nut of Jove”. Jove was the king of their mythological gods. There are two types of Walnuts- the English (which comes from California) and the Black Walnut (native to America) The English Walnut has slightly less protein and more fat.These popular nuts are great in salads, sautéed with veggies, or eaten alone. Walnuts are rich in heart-healthy monosaturated fats and an excellent source of those hard-to-find omega-3 fatty acids in the form of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). They are a good source of the important minerals copper and manganese. These nuts have a concentrated source of sleep-promoting tryptophan and A ¼ cup of walnuts contains 3.81 grams of protein.
