Nutrition Nibble: Feeling Fine with Figs

If I am ever craving candy or sweets, I just bit into a chewy fig and that annoying craving is gone. Figs go back to the earliest of times with mentions in the Bible and other ancient texts. Figs are one of the most concentrated sources of phytosterols, which can block cholesterol absorption in the body and reduce cholesterol levels. Figs are a great source of calcium and dietary fiber. Fully ripe figs are plump and have a dark color. They are soft but not mushy and will have a bit of a syrup exuding from them. Avoid eating figs that are overripe because they have lost a lot of their nutritional value.
