Your body gets most of it’s energy from the foods that you eat early in the day. That’s why it is so important that you never skip breakfast! Eat foods that provide your body with a natural lift of energy like oatmeal, yogurt, berries, bananas, and smoothies. You can also get in the habit of juicing your own fruits and veggies. This is a fantastic way to get a lot of nutrients your body needs early in the day. Need an early morning-mid afternoon snack? Try some raw nuts or veggies dipped in hummus. You can even add some chia seeds to your hummus for an added boost of protein. Be sure that you are drinking plenty of good quality water, especially first thing in the morning. This helps to flush the toxins out and gives you natural energy. Have a good morning!

B vitamins are important for us to include in our diet not only because they promote optimal health, but because they give us a natural lift of energy. Omegas (good fats) are important for not only promoting healthy cells and healing in our bodies, but for giving us a boost of brain power. The pineapple in this smoothie is a good source of manganese, fiber, and vitamin C. The banana included provides your body with vitamin B6 and potassium. I always add some type of flax or chia seed oil to my smoothies to promote a healthy heart, skin, hair, and nails. Give this smoothie a try today!

We all have a lot going on in our lives. Between working, raising kids, running errands, and paying the bills, things can get down-right stressful! There are many healthy ways to deal with stress, but sometimes all you really want to do is relax with a nice cup of tea. Did you know that certain types of tea are able to help stomp out stress? Chamomile, valerian, lemon balm, kava, passionflower, and licorice are perfect teas for helping you unwind and relax. I personally drink Holy Basil tea when I need to relax…it works every time! These teas are loaded with nutrients that help nourish our central nervous system and glandular system. Many health food stores (and regular grocery stores) carry these teas. Stock up on your favorite so when things get hectic, you’ll be prepared!

People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within. – Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
Remember when mama use to tell us to “chew the food before swallowing?’ Well, it turns out she was right! Chewing our food at least 20-30 times before swallowing helps us digest what we are eating. The physical process of chewing (and creating saliva) helps to break down our food, allowing us to digest and absorb nutrients much easier. Our stomach doesn’t have teeth (obviously) and it relies on gastric juices to help us break down food. Let’s help our tummy out by chewing thoroughly the next time we eat!
